Phnom Penh

Our Tuk Tuk on the way to Church. By far the kids favorite way to get around Phnom Penh
We made our way to the beach in Sihanoukville. It was a 4 hour drive on crazy roads.

Wake boarding with the older boys. We rented a boat because I was missing ours terribly. The older boys had a great time wakeboarding. I did manage to get up skiing, but it was a slow boat so I didn't do anything fancy and because I am in charge of the blog there will be no pictures posted- in fairness they are a bit blurry.

This is a fishing village near where we were staying. Much of the village was built mostly over the water.
This cute little boy was sleeping in a very torn hammock outside of his shack. It was hot and muggy, yet this little guy was sleeping so peacefully.
This handsome cheerful boy was cleaning out the nets. After this visit, my kids had a different attitude about work. We are so very blessed.

Two words for you sports enthusiasts out there. Ultimate Frisbee
Spencer and Preston played on the SAS club team. Spencer was a captain this year. They both loved it and had a good season.

Nineteen Years and counting

For our anniversary this year we went to Mario Batali's restaurant here in Singapore. It was Yummy. We then went to the top of the Marina Bay Sands for a spectacular view of Singapore.

I love this guy!
We love Singapore! Beautiful

Preston's Interim: Perth Australia

Preston spent his interim camping and cycling just outside of Perth, Australia.

Preston totally in his element. Jumping and flipping all around on this trampoline!

Spencer's Interim: New Zealand

As a requirement for the high school, you must attend a week 'iterim'.  It is basically a week of eco adventure or service. This year, Spencer was able to go to New Zealand. He enjoyed it immensely. New Zealand is beautiful. The highlight for him was definitely Bungy Jumping at Nevis.

One of these things is not like the other!

Thank you to the Porter family for sending DAN to Singapore!! Our family enjoyed 2 fun weeks with Dan. We played and played.
For the record Dan is tall really tall. Spencer is pushing 6ft!!
Dan got some fun comments about his stature here in Singapore.
Fishing! It is fun to fish anywhere.
Dinner!
What happens when you send 4 boys off on their own to explore Singapore? Not very many pictures is what. Punks!

Random

We really enjoyed the Broadway Musical, "Lion King". It was incredible!!
I just loved how the kids were all huddled around in this picture. It wasn't anything particularly special. Just a fun everyday memory.
Surprise, someone got an IPAD.
We have little gecko lizards everywhere. We call them all Charlie.
They are pretty cute, but can leave 'messes' on the wall

Thaipusam

I first became familiar with Thaipusan when at 16, in Mauritius, my parents and I watched in awe as people pierced themselves. I wondered if I would feel any differently 20+ years later in Singapore. It is an unbelievable experience and I felt eerily similar both times. I think the pictures speak for themselves. OUCH!!

These are the offerings that they carry on their heads.
Preparing for the pilgrimage to the Temple. (a few miles)
They leave a mess when they are done. People come in shifts. When a shift is over, they clean the whole area before the new shift arrives.
Julie, Mindy, Jocelyn
(thanks to Joce's husband Spencer who took 3 crazy ladies out at 1am to watch the festival)
